Tando Creative - things with wings

This week over on the Tando Creative blog the theme is Things With Wings.. I recently purchased an online class to encourage me to try new colours and techniques and this is the result…

not my usual style hey?

The base is a mixed media board which I painted with different colours of Dina Wakely's heavy acrylic paint… once this was dry I stamped, doodled and stencilled using the sequin waste maskthe arrows, heart and birds were all painted with the same paint and then doodled with black and white pens… glossy accents were added to the doodled hearts…. some washi tape was added to the bottom for the hear to lay on…

Don't forget that you can join in with the weekly themes over on the Tando creative blog and for one lucky participant there is a selection of Tando goodies up for grabs… pop on over and join in…

25TH JANUARY

Can you believe we are nearly at the end of January? month in already? we have been very lucky here in Suffolk and had the better deal of the weather, so far! perhaps I shouldn't have said that!! lol… I recently made this card for my sister-in-laws birthday, she loves orange, as do I, both of us buying Orange cars in September!! lol

This size card, 5" x 7", is fastly becoming my favourite size….I started off by cutting my die cuts, a swirl, a picture wheel, a bow…these were cut in cream cardstock and then inked with distress ink…the picture wheel was cut in half… I doodled the edges of the card and inked them then attached the halved pin wheel to the card a selection of orange blooms with bling was then added. I always attach the swirls last so that I know where I want to place them…I made the bow up and added a bit of bling to the centre…a hand cut banner with stamped happy birthday was added to the side..

I have been taking part in the Paperartsy challenges recently and whilst working on the new challenge I decided to visit some products/techniques from the past - mainly those learnt at the artsycraft classes that I attended a few years ago…. when I reached for my Ferro however I got a bit of a shock…everything was solid, so then I looked at my terra…solid….and the paints….cracked and solid… this is the state of my bin this evening…

I dread to think how much money is sitting there!!! how long should you expect product to last? I have a pot of texture paste which I bought second hand about 3 years ago and is still going strong…

Paperartsy - Fragile papers

Over on the Paperartsy blog the format has changed to fortnightly…I wonder if I'll be able to take part each time as monthly was a struggle!! lol - there is loads of inspiration over on the blog and if you've never visited do take time out to take a look.

So, for this fortnight the theme was "fragile papers" - I was really taken with this post by Kate Yetter, so armed with supplies I attached my book pages (my fragile papers) to my journal - horizontally rather than vertically to make it different, and as detailed, painted a watered down layer of fresco finish in snowflake - so at this stage I had a brain wave (not so clever as it panned out, but….) brushos are all the rage at the mo and I bought some sample pots several years ago which I had never used…so, I decided that whilst the paint was wet I would add some to add some bursts of colour - BIG mistake…. unless I can be persuaded otherwise they won't be used again! - the crystals don't stop running…the initial pattern was lovely, but, it keeps going…I managed to get some under my finger nails and it was running red for ages! so, needless to say instead of my background being whitish with red and orange spurts its ended up rather pink…

In all seriousness I did think it would stop!! but it didn't as I stencilled my grungepaste thro' my stencil instead of white it was pink carrying on I added some patterned paper and added another white layer and when this was really, really dry I splattered on some distress stain ink spray…added washi tape, stamping using an old text stamp, some journal/paint techniques learnt in Darcy's journal pages last year and stencilling using distress ink…. the lady image is an old product from Paperartsy, "collage sheet and transparency", the wildlife images on the facing page are from Graphics 45 and my blue flowers are from Tando.….

The English weather is strange isn't it…we started off with blue skies here in Suffolk, then it clouded over and we had some snow/sleet and now the sky is blue and the sun is out…still cold tho' - hope you're all keeping warm.

emboss it...

This week over on the Tando Creative blog our theme is "Embossing" - there have been some great projects published so do pop on over and take a look.

Today I'm sharing a mixed media board which I painted with acrylic paint and then ran thro' my big shot with an embossing folder before adding perfect pearls and spritzing with water…

I then painted 3 x butterflies from the grab bag with paint and ran thro' a text embossing folder before coating with treasure gold - these were added to my board along with a stamped phrase.

2015

Happy New Year!

I hope that you all had a great Christmas and that 2015 will be good to you all!

Today sees a big change over on the Tando blog.  We have decided to close the monthly challenge blog and invite everyone to join us with our weekly themes, there will still be a monthly draw with a prize just more choice to join in…. if you're interested in having a go pop on over to the Tando blog and join in the fun…

Our first theme for 2015 is a colour theme:-

and I've made this piece:-

Taking a large gothic arch layered frame I brayered on stone acrylic paint and then added hi-lights of teal (showing up rather blue here!) I then stencilled paint thro' the round grid stencil.  I then stamped the background using a lined stamp…. once painted I then adhered two of the outer frames into place.  Using the same paints I painted three mini flowers, two mini leaves and the outer edge from the diamond grid (grey) and the middles with a mixture of pale blue and the teal….. once the inner sections were dry I then stamped images onto the shapes before adhering them into the grid.  My flowers, leaves and grid were then doodled on and then added a coat of crackle glaze…a sentiment finished off the frame.  All elements are available from the Tando Retail Shop.

To be in with a chance of winning some great Tando goodies pop on over to the tando blog….
